Dine Out for No Kid Hungry on Long Island

It is the time of the year to Dine Out For No Kid Hungry. Share our Strength is a charity organization to help feeding hungry children in America. Their goal is to stop child hunger for good. From September 16 – 22, 2012  you can dine out at participating restaurants  nation wide. Every participating restaurant will donate a certain amount from every bill to Share our Strength Charity. Many restaurants on Long Island have signed up to be part of this very important campaign.

Here is how it works:

Find a restaurant near you, print out the thank you card and show it to the dining manager. That way “Share our Strength” can get the benefit. All you have to do is enjoy your lunch or dinner.

Help Share our Strength to get the word out and tweet on Monday September 17, 2012   about Dine Out for No Kid Hungry. Participate with the big TwEAT OUT for Dine Out for No Kid Hungry.

Oktoberfest on Long Island

What a great summer we head. Outdoor restaurants and cafes got their share of customers. But it’s not too late to enjoy a cool drink or a delicious dinner at one of your favorite waterfront  restaurants. As the summer is coming to an end the big events are just beginning such as the Oktoberfest. There are some Oktoberfest events in September as well as in October.  Martha Clara Vineyard starts there Oktoberfest early September 7 and the Black Forest Brew House is following September 21. Sag Harbor’s Harborfest

Friday September 28, will be the beginning of the Sag Harbor American Music Festival. The event starts at 8pm. Tickets are $ 20.00 and can be purchased at sagharbaormusic.org. Free performances can be heard Saturday from 11am – 9pm. This is a great time to get to know your the local restaurants in sag harbor.

Grande Festa Italiana in Port Washington

Enjoy this event with your whole family which is held in North Hempstead Beach Park. Admission is free, however there is a parking fee of $ 3.00. The event starts Wednesday September 7 until Sunday September 11. There will be live entertainment, rides, games, food and craft vendors. The Firework will start at Sunday at 9:30pm

 

Third Annual East End Green Fest

Join this “green” festival in Mattituck which is powered by solar energy. Enjoy food, live music and a green carnival. The event is held Friday September 14, to Monday September 17. Check website for hours and more info.

8th Annual Fall Harvest & Seafood Festival at Captree State Park

Bring the entire family and enjoy Long Island harvest foods as well as seafood dishes. The festival starts Saturday September 17, from 11 till 5pm and Sunday September 18, from 11 till 5pm. There are lots of activities for children and of course live entertainment.

Taste some Long Island grown wine and listen to live music at the Harvest Festival at Palmer Vineyards on September 17 & 18 and September 24 & 25. Admission is free and don’t forget to bring the kids for a hayride.

The event is held September 18, from 11-4:30pm with plenty of activities for children and adults. Try your luck in the apple pie baking contest or watch some of the cooking demos.

Greenport Maritime Festival

Long Island Hospitality Events in August

What a great summer we have, the weather is fantastic for most days. Isn’t Long Island beautiful? With plenty of beaches to choose from, Long Island is truly vacation destination. Sadly many people don’t know how beautiful Long Island is until they discover it. A great way to discover Long Island is by booking a hotel room or B&B and spend a weekend at one of the hundreds of locations throughout the Island. The east end for example has great hotels and resorts to choose from.

Boater’s Paradise

For those of you who are into boating, Long Island is a paradise. With so many waterfront restaurants accessible for boaters it is no wonder that restaurants like Prime in Huntington, Rachel’s Waterside Grill in Freeport or Paddy

McGee’s in Island Park are busy destinations especially on the weekend. Most of these water accessible restaurants offer free docking for boaters and almost all offer live entertainment on Weekends. BBQ Championship

Come and taste some of the best BBQ treats at the “Smokin’ at the Maples” BBQ Championship  in Manorville on August 4-5th.  The Fundraiser is organized by the John Theissen Children’s Foundation. Some of the Best BBQ Pit-masters compete for $10,000 in prizes.  Enjoy Live Music all weekend, a custom car show, food sampling and cooking demonstrations. The event will happen rain or shine.

The Great Food Truck Derby

Edible East End is presenting The Great Food Truck Derby on August 10th from 4-7:30pm at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton.  The event is catered for families and kids and includes tacos, pizza, cupcakes and much more mobile eats from Food Trucks of Long Island and Manhattan.  Some Long Island wineries and beer breweries will be on site, too. Save $ 10.00 per person when you purchase your tickets early, tickets includes food from at least 15 Food Trucks and free drinks.
